Keep Your Kids OUT Of Hot Water...Put Them On Ice!

How does my child get started?  Before joining CCYHA and attending practices and games focused on team concepts, it is important for new players to go through a beginner program that focuses on developing the fundamental individual skills needed for hockey! To play hockey is to play the "coolest" sport on earth.  However, it does take time to learn.  Like learning to run, you must learn to walk first.  The same goes for hockey to learn to play you must learn to skate first.

CCYHA highly recommends the  LEARN TO SKATE PROGRAM, which is operated by the Skating Academy.  The goal of this program is to prepare participants for play in a more structured youth hockey program by teaching the fundamentals of hockey skating.  For more information on that program visit www.ChautauquaIce.com

OK, once my child can skate and has the basic skills to play on a team, then what? Once a player has gone through "Learn To Hockey Skate" or the player and parents feel that they are prepared for organized league play; it is time to join a team.  Look through our different programs under the tab on the menu above.

When does the season start, how long does it run and what are the next steps?  The youth hockey season runs approximately from September through early March for the travel teams (the try-outs for these teams are held in the spring).  The season for the house program runs from October through late February. The beginner season starts in November (after the Learn To Hockey Skate Program), and runs through late February.
